Faculty of Forestry The Faculty places a very high emphasis on discipline of students both inside and outside the campus. Students must abide by the Faculty and hostel rules and agree to confirm to rules and regulations enforced from time to time. They must not to do anything either inside or outside the Faculty that will interfere with its orderly governance, discipline and image.
Students must attend lectures, practical classes, short term excursions to near by forests and long tour regularly. A minimum attendance of 75 percent in lectures for each subject is essential for appearing in the semester Examinations. Thus, students should attend all theory and practical classes from the first day of the academic year. In case of absence due to unavoidable circumstances, students are advised to take prior permission from the Dean/ Head. In case of absence due to illness, students will have to produce a medical certificate with an application from their parents or guardian. In such cases, parents / guardians or hostel warden should inform the authorities immediately.
Students should not damage the property of the Faculty. Cost of such damage will be recovered from students, parents/guardians of the students.
Students must always carry their Identity Card and produce it on request. Students should park their cycles/ motorcycles in an orderly manner at the vehicle stand. Students should follow the rules of the Hostel Mess/ Canteen. Students are advised to read the Notice Board regularly.
Students are strictly prohibited from possessing or consuming spirits, tobacco products and narcotic drugs either within or outside the Campus.
Ragging in any form inside or outside the campus is strictly prohibited by law. Any student found ragging other students will be summarily expelled from the Faculty and dealt with as per directive of the Hon. Supreme Court / Hon. High Court.
The students are required to bear the dress prescribed by the college. For forestry students the dress code is: Pista green shirt and deep green trousers. For girls it is shameej and sal war of the same colour.

Hostel facilities are provided to all the admitted students for forestry.
The Faculty has two boys Hostel namely Bhairavi & Saranda Hostel with a beautiful park at the same campus and they are required to reside in the rooms allotted in the Hostel and take food in common mess. There are two separate Hostels for girl students.
For providing facilities to lady staff and girl students separate common room is available in the Faculty.
In the Faculty campus, buildings and Hostels solar lights, have been provided.
Faculty has a combined medical dispensary with the University for all Faculties in between head quarter and Central library which is equipped with a ambulance providing 24 hrs service to students and employees.
The Faculty has comprehensive facilities for most outdoor sports and games and a host of extra curricular activities, so necessary for the overall and healthy development of young people, and encourages participation by students.
We have a beautiful health club with modern, well equipped multi-gym, a fine new ground and courts for football, hockey, cricket, kabaddi, tennis, volley ball, badminton etc. Coaches are also available for their guidance.
Traditional festivals like Saraswati puja, Sarhool and X-Mas are also celebrated with devotion at the Hostel and Auditorium of the university.
The Faculty teams have regularly participated at students festival sponsored by ICAR New Delhi, where they have begged awards in various events.
The Students have participated various Inter-University meets and tournaments at the National level in tennis, basket ball, badminton, volley ball and football.
In Faculty of Forestry two Smart Class Room having all modern equipments for teaching is available.
Library of the Faculty of Forestry has the collection of books on Forestry, Botany, Environmental sciences, Geology, medicinal plants and includes over 8000 volumes and documents.
The Faculty has ARIS Cell with 20 computers having internet facility of BSNL Broad Band in addition to Wi-Fi system.
To obtain vegetative propagation of Agro-forestry tree species and medicinal plants collected from different forests of Jharkhand, the faculty has established two Mist Chambers at the campus.
Nation's first Facilitation Centre on Medicinal Plants has been inaugurated on 28th April2008 by Sri B.S. Sajwan (IFS), CEO National Medicinal Plants Board, New Delhi. funded by National Medicinal Plants Board and Department of A YUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi. The main objectives of the centre are to facilitate the farmers with cultivation, scientific management and trade of medicinal and aromatic plants. Another major role of the centre is to create widespread awareness regarding the commercial cultivation of MAPs and to establish marketing linkage among growers, traders and manufactures of medicinal and herbal drugs. It also include the provision of providing them QPM (Quality Planting Material) of medicinal plants.
Germ Plasm Bank of medicinal & aromatic plants of Jharkhand has been established in Faculty of Forestry named as Window of Jharkhand. Multiplication of Aswagandha, (Withania somnifera), Ghrit kumara (Aloe vera), Safed musali (Chloraophytum borivillianim), Brahmi (Bacopa moneri), Manduck Parni (Centella asiatica), Japani pudina (Mentha arvensis), Kalmegh (Andrograpis paniculata), Stevia, Isabgole, Pipali, Bhringraj etc are being done.
Besides work on development of agro-technologies on medicinal plants viz. Safed musali, Satawar, Aloe-vera, Ashwagandha, Bramim kali musli, Mandukpame, Japani pudina (Mentha). Pipli, Bringraj is being done.
The released varieties of Medicinal & Aromatic plants in the country are being maintained and multiplied in the garden. Important medicinal plant varieties used in nursery development and mass multiplication at Faculty of Forestry Campus are Ashwagandha - JA20, Ashwagandha-JA134, Ahwagandha- Pishta, Sarpgandha- RS1, Satawar- JS 1, Kalmegh-Megha, Kalmegh- JK1, Safed Mosli- ASM1, Isabgol - J14, Chandrasur - GA 1, Senna - AFLT2, Kalmegh - AK1, Shyam Tulsi-GAU2, etc.
Workshop on NTFP (Non Timber Forest Products) and MAPs (Medicinal and Aromatic Plants) was inaugurated on the 8th Feb. 2009 by Dr. Mangla Rai, the Director General of ICAR in the presence of Dr. N. N. Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Birsa Agricultural University.
The Machineries & equipments installed in the unit including Oil Extraction Unit, Pulverizer, Mass Mixer, Power Sieve, Tray Dryer, Tablet Making Machine, Tablet Coating Machine, Log Conversion Machine, Pattal Making Machine & Seed grader.
At the centre, there are items made-up of bamboo and other non-timber forest produce such as small wood, shrubs, jute, grasses, lac, resin, herbal dyes, paper moulds, wood chips, saw-dust etc., which can be the sources of rural livelihood and income generation of rural poor. It also provides vocational training to entrepreneurs and farmers for skill development.
