The Postgraduate programme started in 1991. The faculty was earlier offering M.Sc. (Forestry) in Silviculture, Forest Management, Extension & Social Forestry. From the year 2009, M.Sc. Forestry is being Ph.D.(Forestry) programme in Silviculture and Agroforestry was initiated in the year 2007. The enrolled students of these programmes conduct their thesis research under the supervision of Faculty members.

The Students of the faculty are given physical training and they Students go for long tours to other states to visit different forests areas of the country. They have weekly excursions to near by forests in the state as per the course curriculum of the semester Physical training, Physical Education and N.S.S. are integral part of the under graduate curriculum and compulsory upto six semesters.
The integrated course of Forestry work Experince Programme (FWEP) of 20 weeks is conducted for the Final year stuednts exclusively in the field.
Admission to undergraduate programmes is done through ICAR and JCECEB i.e. 15% of the total seats are filled by a Combined Competitive Entrance Examination conducted by I.C.A.R. at all India level and 85% of the total seats are filled by state level combined competitive Entrance Examination , conducted by Jharkhand Competitive Entrance Examination Board . The minimum qualification to be eligible for Jharkhand state level competitive Entrance Examination is Intermediate /10+2 or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics.
Only those students selected in written test will go through Physical endurance test. The Medical fitness and Physical Standards (a height of 163 em for male and 150 em for female candidates) are checked at the college. Endurance test for both male and female candidate is held under which they will have to cover a distance of 25 km. (male candidates) and 14 km (female candidates) in four hours.
